A chemical dependency counselor who is a 1992 graduate of Hoquiam Substantial School was selected from two candidates to fill a vacancy on the Aberdeen Metropolis Council Wednesday.
Melvin Taylor will choose the Ward 1, Position 1 seat remaining vacant when Dave Haviland resigned Jan. 25. Ward 1 encompasses most of the south side of town.
Taylor instructed the council Wednesday prior to his selection, “I would like to help Aberdeen transfer forward. I’d like to be part of a crew that is seeking for solutions to our city’s difficulties. I also am a chemical dependency counselor and I seriously see a good deal of the chemical dependency issues and psychological wellness concerns we have on the Harbor, and I feel with my encounter in this I would be a fantastic member of the Town Council to assist get the job done toward answers.”
When asked by Councilwoman Liz Ellis what other areas of desire Taylor, who holds a Master’s of General public Administration degree from The Evergreen Point out University, would have as a council member, Taylor explained he believed that with some function the city could turn out to be a hub of types for the travellers heading to and from the beach locations.

The City Council voted 9-2 in favor of Taylor’s appointment. He will start out serving at the future council meeting, April 14.
